Good morning all,

The week is halfway over in terms of school! Yeah! Anyway, I was just writing to offer some assistance. I feel fairly confident in the mathematical part of stats. I am more than willing to come early and help anyone who would like some help. Just email me and let me know. Csilk1028@aol.com! See you in class.

Chapter 5 Law Briefs

A few of you asked me if we were splitting the briefs for chapter 5. Here is the list of those he asked us to do for Thursday. If you want to do one, please post a comment to this post. Please check the comments first before you choose one to know which ones have been taken. Once you complete the brief, please just email it as an attachment to everyone. Then, please speak up in class for the one you did. I suggest we all read the cases so we are all at least familiar with them. Then you can rely on the shared briefs for detail and reminding.

Clawson keeps mentioning the enteric "brain". I did not remember learning about this part of the brain in my major (psychology). So I found a website that helped me out. It was informational so I thought I might share it with you all. http://www.psyking.net/id36.htm.

These might help also

the last one was interesting and actually tied into what Clawson is talking about.

12 Angry Men

Well, the new time knocks me out, so is there anyone else who would like to set up a different time? My wife's family is in town that weekend, and leave Tuesday morning. I still prefer the original time. Any takers, or suggestions for another time?

12 Angry Men Revised

Upon further consideration from Lynette G., it seems that Monday, July 7 at 10:00am would be better for viewing the movie. That gives us the rest of the week to work with our groups and also July 9 it looks as though we will not have class in the second slot, so that may be a nice time for groups to meet as well. Anyway, for those of you who can make it, plan on this new day and we'll do lunch instead of dinner. If you are unable to view it with us, perhaps another group could find another time to meet, or you can enjoy it on your own.

Watching 12 Angry Men

A few of us got together after classes and discussed a good day for watching the movie for Hite's class. We thought a Thursday night would be best as we don't have class on Friday's. We thought it would be nice to order from Brick Oven and "enjoy" the movie. We thought Thursday, July 10 would be good. So, plan on a movie night with LPP on July 10. If there's any major problems, make a comment or let the class know and we'll see what we can work out.

Hite Stuff

I though that I'd throw out this email. This is what the written requirements are for her class. I would definitely make a schedule so that you know beforehand;
- Group Activity + writeup
- 4 quizzes
- 4 Reflective memos
- Washing Disciples' feet paper
- 4 Self Insight exercises
(do the other self-insight activities)
- Self Reflection paper
- 12 angry men paper as a group.

Book Disaster

Hey everyone! I talked to someone from LPP 22 about this book disaster, and unfortunately she told me this is quite common. Sometimes there is even a change in the course instructor at the last minute and the book list changes. She recommended that we buy no books early...wait till after the first day of a new class.

Reserve Materials for EDLF 600

Here is the link to get to the reserve articles for Dr. Hite's class for anyone who might want quick access. http://docutek.lib.byu.edu/eres/coursepass.aspx?cid=1738 You'll have to put in the code that she gave in her email with the syllabus. The article by Kimball is not listed there. We'll have to talk to her about that during class as well as working out the book mess.

1/2 way through our week off! :(

Well, our one week off is halfway through. Quite depressing! Anyway, on to more exciting things. We should have eight books for Dr. Hite's class. My question to everyone is... Do we bring all eight books to class on the first day? Hmmm~ What think all you? (Don't edit it... I wrote that way on purpose)

1/5 the way through

Dang Baby, we are 1/5 the way through this program. That first part sure went fast. Can you imagine how fast the internship is going to be. I want to say that I am enjoying this cohort, and I know that part of my growth is because of your kindness and support. I may only get a C in the class, but I know that my paper would not have been 1/2 as good without your input. See you all Friday, I have heard that the keynote speaker is great.
Thanks for being who you are.

Bill

P.S. do you all notice that you are editing your messages more than you used to? I even asked my wife to tell me what the antecedent was to the pronoun she was using. but I got issues, so maybe its just me.

Foam board

Hey friends! I went to Xpedx and picked up a huge sheet of the white foam board for our poster session. I had them cut it down, so I have two extra pieces. It's about 32" x 48" and only $5.00. (I paid $15 for one large sheet cut into three pieces.) If anyone still needs a board, let me know by responding to this post.

Just think, we will be done with our first semester Tuesday night. That calls for a celebration! We can make it.

Troubles on the Amazon

Just an FYI. If any of you have troubles with your order I found a website that gives you direct line to Amazon.com's support line. It is 1-866-216-1072. However I understand that they have a link that allows you to ask a question, send it in and their hope is to contact you within minutes.

5K, love & more!

What up COHORT!

So, tomorrow morning I get to run the Art City Days 5k in Springville, Utah! I'm totally stoked and excited. I just went and played ultimate frisbee with some peops. There was one girl in particular that I found attractive. The problem is that I have no real connections to her. I know her first name, the ward she is in and where she lives. However we just met playing UF and there was no real opportunity to get to know her better. So... the question is...

1. Do I hope that fate will somehow allow me to run into her again.

or...

2. Do I act like a stalker and manipulate things so that I run into her again... i.e. show up at her ward with some lame excuse of why I am there...

You see, there are more important things to blog about than stupid school papers, posters presentations and finals. Where are your priorities? Just kidding. Good read Ford. I'm going to try and be there to the study session on Monday!

Way to weave in work.

You may already do this but I found a pretty easy way to weave in my readings from the research I've been drowning in. I took my outline and kept it beside me as I read and when I say a particular passage, idea, or quote I wanted to use I circled it and then marked next to it I. A 3 which = my First topic's - first idea - third supporting concept. Whoa, I know that really sucked for an explanation. You know how are outlines go;
I. Discovery
A. Select area of inquiry
1. Establish desired findings
2. Research various forms of acquisition
3. Produce a system of evaluation
B. Acquire data
1. Target desired data
2. Harvest data
3. Store data
C. Define standard
1. Consolidate expectations
2. Disaggregate data
3. Establish desired results of student learning (DRSLs)

Well, as I read then I identified something in the research that would be supportive to my writing effort. So, I. A 3 would be a sentence within my Discovery (I) section, under my Select are of Inquiry topic (A), and supportive of my thoughts concerning Produce a system of evaluation (3).

So, here is the quiz: If your reading something about how an agency looks at establishing DRSLs what would right next to it as a code?

Maybe that doesn't help you but this has been saving my butt as I swim through "hell". Keep smilin', right?

Principal charged for not reporting abuse

I thought this was a timely article, considering our discussion in class yesterday.

Biggest Loser

Hey yo!

Well, i'm glad we could find something where I didn't have to set up a complete new email address. This seems quite efficient. Anyway. Biggest Loser rolls like this... basically you will be in charge of yourself. There are around 10 different criteria to earn you points. You keep track of your own points and turn them into me each week. You set a goal before we start. You try to reach your goal by the end of summer. All of this is to make you healthier.

The reason... well I know that when my life undergoes dramatic changes, my routines out of sync. It seems like my health suffers because I am not used to figuring out my workout routine, when and what to eat, etc. Hopefully this will keep us a little focused. The best part is that you are really only competing against yourself. You are trying to reach YOUR goal. There will be prizes for a few things here and there, but in the end the whole point is to celebrate when you reach your goal! If this sounds like something you are interested in simply say ... YES! Otherwise stay silent. Silence speaks louder than words. Cliche.
Welcome!!!

We now have our own blog. I've put everyone's email down as authors. This gives each of us the ability to post/change whatever we want. I thought it would be fun to have a blog for our cohort with updates, pictures, etc....and maybe Cory can include updates about his Biggest Loser contest. Anything goes!

Post your comments. Let us know what you think. :) Have a great weekend!
